RUSCIN's RANT - A Little Perspective...Give Pelphrey A Chance |

I came on our radio show a week or so ago and ripped John Pelphrey pretty good. After thinking it through, it only seems fair that we all give him a chance. He lost, counting a Russian and a Rakestraw, 9 dudes off last year's roster. You can't replace that in one recruiting class in basketball. I believe that he only has 6, sometimes 7, players that he trusts putting on the floor and that isn't easy. Pelphrey is battling other teams and battling himself because he's in a difficult position. Do I put a guy on the floor I'm not confident in to give one of my stars a break? Or do I just ride this thing out knowing next year should be better?
We were all duped and bamboozled when this team beat Oklahoma and Texas, something we can all see now had no business happening. I mean if Arkansas played Oklahoma 99 more times, the Sooners would win all 99. So stop whining about coaching and just take the layed back approach to this season. He told us in October this is rebuilding, now we know he was right.
We will see improvement next year, when Arkansas should be able to make a run at the Sweet 16 IF they get a favorable draw in the NCAA Tournament. As for this year struggles: its not chemistry, its not coaching, its simply the fact that you can't replace 7 major contributors in one recruiting class. I'm still expecting big things from John Pelphrey and the Razorback basketball team in the future, beyond this ugly season, and I'm not ready to close the book on them yet.
