Ruscin's Rant
My take on the Masoli Situation Across the River
I don't wanna spend a ton of time talking about this on my show, so I figured why not write about it here. I find the Jeremiah Masoli eligibility situation extremely humorous like a lot of you do but not because it affects our dear old friend in Oxford. The part of this story that I find the most amusing is that the people at Ole Miss actually thought they could get away with this. Maybe in the past with the old NCAA, but with the new regime that has takend discipline quite seriously, programs can't get away with trying to bend the rules in this way.
The rule in question is designed to allow students who are interested in furthering their education...ask yourself this; do you really think Masoli has any interest in a masters degree from the University of Mississippi? Maybe he does and if so, he is one of the few student-athletes that is actually interested in getting an education. My guess is Masoli just wants to play football for a living cause it means a quick buck and he was looking for a place to play this year to get a resume reel together for NFL scouts come draft time. I find it funny that people are talking about the fact that Masoli can play in 2011....like that's gonna happen!
Nutt got caught trying to run a scam to sidestep the NCAA rules and it backfired. I applaud the new NCAA powers that be for laying down the law here and not letting the used car salesman get away with this one.
